Sadly Wal passed away peacefully on the morning of May 15th 2015. It was an honour to have made the aquaintence of Wal and his lovely wife Julie at the 2009 Kasfareet Re-union at Birmingham and a later Exiles Meet near Oxford. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family in New Zealand.

Wal ( Fritz ) Hilsden left the UK in 1960 and emigrated to New Zealand

He was subsequently transferred to New Zealand and after a spell in Singapore and once again Sydney, he and wife Julie returned to Auckland to retire. He made the return trip to the UK with Julie to attend the Kasfareet re-union at Birmingham, one of several trips back to Blighty.
Jack Garry says that Wal got the nickname Fritz because of the blonde type hair he had.

Wal says on June 12th 2011....When I was on night patrol, I sometimes broke in to PSCO through an open window. There was a small kitchen for the guys who were on night duty to deal with urgent AOG stuff ( Aircraft on Ground emergency) They were always fast asleep in the bunk room and I made tea and scoffed their biscuits on several occasions. No one ever woke up !
