This is my famous ` tanner ` goal. When I played for Irthlingborough Diamonds ( now part of the Rushden & Diamonds F.C.) my Aunt Grace gave me a tanner when ever I scored a goal. I well remember this goal, I just managed to connect before Taff Ellis ? trapped my foot but too late because the ball looped over the goalie and into the net. I think the goalie was Donaghue who told notorious tales of a weekend in Cyprus.

The sports field with no 1 football pitch nearest with no 2 football pitch behind and hockey pitch further back then the cricket pitch furthest away. The cricket pavilion and sight screen to left of picture. Taken from the guard tower close to the football pitches.
Pictured from the guard tower, this is looking down the length of the no 1 football pitch with the rugby pitch and athletics track beyond. The sargeants mess is further back
Twelve pictures of a football match being played on what was at one time the old hockey pitch. Behind the goalmouth you can see the high mullochy fence around the tennis courts (See Jack Garry`s tennis pictures). I do not know what sort of match this is but it looks like the ref favoured long trousers to shorts !! And also there are not many spectators. There are just a handful in front of the concrete bunker beside the pitch and one or two hidden by the shadow cast by the tennis fence. Click on numbers below to view
