Lesley`s mother, Joyce Frier was born in Croydon on Jan 16th 1926. At some stage she was posted to M.E.A.F. 15 and sailed on the troopshop Empress of Australia heading for Port Said at the head of the Suez Canal via a stopover at Malta. She was destined for No 107 Maintenance Unit at RAF Kasfareet situated on the western shores of The Great Bitter Lake in Egypt where she took up her duties as an Equipment assistant. Throughout her service life she was always addressed by her nickname of " Bunny ". Following her marriage to Wilfrid Gooch on April 8th 1950, she returned to the UK for her service discharge at No 5 PDC at RAF Hednesford on July 6th 1950. Above the catwalk and below with other friends. On the way to Egypt. August 1948
Outside the B2 Hanger, home of No 2 Wing Provisional & Stock Control Offices (P.S.C.O.) Joyce is third from right and her close friend Betty fourth from left.
The above picture would suggest that Lesley`s mother, classified as an Equipment Assistant , worked as part of the staff of the Equipment Account Section within this hanger which was the No 2 Wing H.Q. The E.A. Section was the largest in staff numbers within the Wing so could it be that the following three groups photographed in the same spot, comprised the rest of the EA staff at that time ? ( Alwyn...I worked in Prov 3 Electricals adjacent to E.A. for two and a half years separated by a 6 foot wall )
Lesley says " Top photo says Munsey ATS Sgt on right, Doreen on left and self. YMCA Ismailia on leave 1949 ",,,An image of the back of the picture is shown below and says RAF El Hamra which is a transit camp just over the Treaty Road . I wonder if this pic was taken in transit at El Hamra soon after arrival in the Canal Zone ?
The above picture would again appear to be just outside the P.S.C.O. Hanger.
